Episode 20: Memory Activism

00:00

What is memory activism? What is the role of memory activism and alternative commemorations in post-conflict societies? We are discussing memory activism and memory of activism in Serbia with Orli Fridman, an associate professor at the Faculty of Media and Communications and the founder and director of the Centre for Comparative Conflict Studies (CFCCS) at Singidunum University in Belgrade. In her new book “Memory Activism and Digital Practices after Conflict: Unwanted Memories”, Orli investigates the development of alternative calendars and commemorative practices in Serbia in the context of “unwanted memories” of the 1990s wars, understanding the post-Yugoslav space as a region of memory. We are talking about on-site and digital memory activism and the memory and legacies of anti-war activism of the 1990s today.
